When we travel to cities of developed nations, one thing that we never fail to compare is their scenic beauty and cleanliness with the clustered walls and dirty streets of our city. The clustered walls are the end result of the various election campaigns and promotional posters stuck over and over at the prominent locations in the city. While, the dirty streets are a function of these posters and flyers being distributed/thrown during the various election activities. Both, our government, many universities and other parties consider the walls of the city as their bulletin board during prime events. Lets condemn the act and seek the authorities to ban sticking bills and graffiti. Lets take our first step in making our city as beautiful as the rest.
Ban Sticking Bills and Graffiti on City Walls
- Central Government
To,
Election Commission & the Central Government, Delhi NCR
This petition aims to save the city walls from falling prey to the multi-colour artwork that political parties like to display during the run up to the elections. This encourages various other parties/groups to use the same walls for their personal marketing agenda or other promotional activity post elections. These walls are also widely used in a similar format by the Delhi University Electorates who envision their political careers by aping the promotional campaigns adopted by leading political parties during general elections.
After a few months post every general election, the walls of Delhi can be compared with long ignored ruins. It is not only sad but an ugly sight to see scribbled walls and torn posters at various prominent locations in and around the Delhi NCR region. And I am very sure the site is no different in other states of India as well. Why can't we run these important events in a more educational fashion? Why can't the political parties set good examples as a means of gathering public support? It is a clear example of abuse of power by political parties shadowing the everyday lives of ordinary citizens.
Therefore, on behalf of the expanding environmentally aware population, I request the concerned authorities to ban this act and enforce a law against the defacement of private and public property. We collectively would like you to levy a ban and penalize parties/groups engaging in sticking posters/bills or making graffiti on city walls. Please help us keep our city clean.
Yours Sincerely,
Isha Gupta
